WHAT WILL CHANGE WHEN I MOVE FROM PAEDIATRIC TO ADULT SERVICES?

There are many similarities between paediatric and adult care.

You will have a gastroenterology doctor looking after you. You will attend clinic appointments and be expected to have blood tests from time to time.

However, there are some differences like attending a bigger, busier clinic with older adults, being admitted to a different ward, having different visiting hours and more responsibility for your treatment.

Some young people worry that the move to adult care will mean that they will need to have endoscopies without an anaesthetic. If this is something that concerns you, please discuss it with your medical team.

Having more responsibility can feel great and give you more control but sometimes you might still want your parents’ or carer’s support.

Remember that feeling like this is totally okay and you can still get their support when you want it.
